Tackling the Alabama Manufacturing Skills Gap Head On

Posted by Star Industrial Services on Jun 19, 2020 2:01:40 PM

Star Industrial Services, headquartered in Nashville, TN, with offices located in Birmingham,
AL and Henderson, KY, is pleased to announce the graduation of Certified Production
Associates from The Star Institute, an advanced manufacturing training skills facility working
in conjunction with Alabama OEM’s Tier 1 and 2 automotive suppliers, located in Pinson, AL.

With safety and quality standards playing an increasingly critical role for compliance to Alabama automotive manufacturers, the hiring of certified production associates has never been more important – particularly in the areas of safety, sustainability, and quality control.

The Star Institute (a non-profit 501(c)(3) training facility in Pinson, AL) implemented the Pathways & Partnerships Program, bringing together unique skills to empower the job candidate. By preparing them with critical workforce readiness skills, these candidates are matriculating into the workplace with a greater degree of self-confidence evidenced through attendance compliance and improved quality inspection aptitudes.

“The Star Institute’s OJT work shadowing programs coupled with this advanced academic institute workplace training is truly differentiating our employees from traditional contingency
labor/agency playbooks," said Rod Jandt, CEO of Star Industrial Services. "A trained and certified mobile workforce with OSHA and Six Sigma certifications is what we believe is going to reduce turnover, which in turn reduces OT labor costs, and increases retention rates for Alabama automotive manufacturers."

The Star Institute is proud to announce the first class of certificate graduates. On June 12, the first class of Certified Production Associates completed and passed the required exams for the CSSC Certified LEAN Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification, and the OSHA 10-hour Safety Training
Certificate.

By connecting The Star Institute with local Alabama automotive manufacturers and offering
continual education through non-degreed manufacturing certificates, this accelerated learning
and on-demand workforce distribution puts Star candidates in a very unique space.
